Why can't I download while using certain firewall software?
In short, you can, except under some special circumstances. MajorGeeks.com is one of the few sites on the Internet that hosts our own files. It’s very expensive to do that but we think it works for the quality and speed of downloads and to be able to host obsolete files. In order to control the cost of the process, we have certain security measures in place to protect the files from unauthorized access. One of those ways is by checking the ”header” variable of the browser window to make sure the request came form the right place, in other words simply to be sure that your downloading the file from MajorGeeks, not a direct file link from another website.
Some firewall software, mainly Norton’s Firewall and Outpost Firewall, can block this variable in certain modes (Which is sort of silly thing to do), which makes our server think you are attempting to bypass security and it will promptly disallow you .
There’s two ways to handle this problem:
1) Change your firewall settings in options to allow the http_referrer variable (best bet)
2) Turn it off while you are downloading from MajorGeeks.
