I have a lot of IDE HDD (4 HDD + DVD writer), and I had to put one of my drive on the Promise raid controller.
The only way to boot the Ubuntu live CD is to set the IDE configuration to "compatible mode" instead of "enhanced mode", and I have to choose one of my IDE controller (so 2 of my 4 drives are disabled).
The drive on the Promise controller works fine.
The same problem may happen with SATA drives.

Same as #14858, I had to set it in compatible mode, otherwise it hangs at boot.
