This scanner will only work if you use 3rd party software on linux. Personally i used Vuescan from Hamrick software (www.hamrick.com)

Once there was a kernel that supported the scanner out of the box but this was on one mysterious moment, had to swich to more recent version later and only would work using vuescan.
