Apparently, this likely works best with "Brother HL-2060 Foomatic/HL1250" driver instead of default pull-up Foomatic 2070 driver (the latter driver awakens the printer, yet, it won't print. With the HL-2060 driver mentioned previously, the printer won't print at the top resoltion. This is using Ubuntu 8.10 32-bit i386 on 64-bit CPU hardware. Other users report success with Mandriva, with its .rpm files instead of .debs.
Had no success getting the lpr and cupswrapper HL-2140 drivers installed correctly. If one desires to try, right-click on "Accept" for the license agreement for downloading the drivers: then, use the "save link" command from the file menu: Then click that file.
(Otherwise, Brother's site had me going around in circles trying to download decent drivers This automatically saves the driver desired to your hard drive.)
Full functionality is very dependent upon the OS and hardware one chooses. A useless driver pulls up as default. Next best is achievable for 8.10 and and laundry.
