i posted...works right out of box.
However, after alot more playing the game is not as stable as i thought.
I have read this game is a bad port and as such is known to pause ever so briefly on XP.
It happens on Vista ...However in one case that stutter actually turned into a long pause and then a BSOD (no longer blue :) and crashed the whole machine (something i thought could no longer happen).
I have reduced the resolution to 1024*768 and have had no futher bsods....the, almost, pauses remain.
Just a cautionary tale.
running e6600/badaxe 2/2 gig ocz/ nvidia 8800 gts OC 320 mb with 100.65 certified drivers.

I bought this game a couple years back to run on my xp desktop, im now in college and have a new vista laptop, the only problem is it wont install...the system requirments say windows 200, or xp, so i guess it doent work with vista...when i install it says cannot complete installation becuase of the directx, well, thats bullshit, because running vista, i have a directx10, also, running the support app. the game comes with, it shows i have a directx10 and that it supports the game, where the support app says my pc fails is in the operating system.

I also get the error with DirectX.
Tried to run the game in compatability mode - tried Windows XP and set every EXE to use it.
Refues to install. Currently running DirectX 10.

Works fine, if you follow these steps (thanks to linux-gamers.net):
1. Copy the entire 1st CD to a harddrive other than C:
2. Edit the file AutoRun/autorun.cfg:
...
DirectXVersion=0
StartMenuDXEULA=0
...
3. Run the installer and it should work

NFS MW does install without any problems.
But once i run the game and want to enter the world it brings me back to the desktop. no warning or pop up afterwards.
The same problem occures on XP Pro 64bit.
Tried all the solutions that are outthere, but to no avail.
Even installed NFS MW into the standard 32 bit folder, as it would apear in xp.
But still ctd-ing and not being able to enter the game world

works fine for a few minutes, then stutters. seems to be a vista issue
it works perfectly in xp though. my experience in xp when the game was first released, was that the game would constantly speed up then slow down - not frame rates though - actual game speed. after researching the issue, i found out it was because i had a dual-core processor. the fix was to download WinLauncherXP from this link.
http://majorgeeks.com/WinLauncherXP_d870.html
add a profile for nfs:mw and select it to run only on the first core. after that it will run perfectly, no problems at all (xp only)
my system config: core 2 duo t7300, 3gb ddr2, nvidia 9800m gts, vista x32

The game installed fine, but when I try to play the game an error message comes up saying "Please eject and re-insert the CD-ROM, select OK and restart application" However doing this, does nothing. The menu for game comes up, but I can't play the game. I clicked tech support and everything passed except the operating system which failed.

Doesn't install: it ignores my DirectX 9.0c, keeps reinstalling it and asking for reboot. You have to copy files from CD1 or DVD to your HDD other than the one you're going to install it to (e.g. you're installing it on drive C: (default); copy files from laser disc to D: (root or subfolder) then. Or vice versa: copy to C: if you're installing on D:). Then open autorun.cfg from AutoRun folder in Notepad and change 2 following parameters to 0:
DirectXVersion=0
StartMenuDXEULA=0
Then run copied AutoRun.exe; proceed as usual, changing CDs in real/virtual CD/DVD drive when asked.
