Q3 is not running on Vista. It dies with the error message "GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem".

Copied my quake 3 folder from my old computer, so I don't know if the installer works, but runs just fine after I deleted my config file.
The brightness slider no longer works, but otherwise runs fine.

ok.....the game works well if you try this solution.....
resolution 1024x768.
and go for vista control panel...
then 3d settings\manage 3d settings\program settings
then go for Quake 3. and set all features for low resolution.
one more setting i go for is run the quake3.exe in compatibilty mode for win xp sp2.
ALL THESE SETTINGS IS ONLY FOR WIN VISTA 32bit

Game runs great. Just run Setup.exe inside the QUAKE3 folder - do not use autorun.

I have Windows Server 2003 (Enterprise x64 SP2), and I cannot get Quake 3 Arena to install. It says "The image file D:\setup.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine."
Can find any information on Google or any forums.

To run the setup on windows xp 64, navigate to the Quake3 folder and run that setup. It'll install Quake3 for you and won't give you the weird invalid machine message the setup in the parent folder gives you. Hope this helps!

I had to copy the disk to a folder on the hard drive for both quake 3 and the expansion Team Arena after that the install from the file one down in the tree worked fine. Same goes for quake and with EasyQuake. Quake 2 with expansions installed off the Quake four S.E DVD is normal. I'm not sure about the Vintage Quake 2 disks I'll assume its the same as Quake 1 and 3. Hexxen 2 is a little bit different and has to have all the GL goodies in place. I'd pretty much try this approach for most old games on XP64 if you are having problems. It works most of the time.

Can't run setup - Just copy the contents of the CD to a folder on your HDD (just copy the Quake 3 folder from the root of the CD). Go in to the Quake3 directory and double-click Quake3.exe.
Enter your CD key when prompted and your in.

I have a dual core 64 bit processor (AMD 5600+) and 3gb ram. I have tried opening the installer directly on the CD it will show the first menu to instal, I select it, the window dissapears and it doesnt install. I have tried selecting it to run in xp sp2 compat mode with same results. I have tried copying the entire quake 3 folder to my desktop and also havent succeeded in running trying both methods. I should also not I am running it as administrator as well. the application will run directly off the CD or the folder but it wont allow me to permanently install it in the proper way.
