I was suffering from this, plus my 6600GT AGP would ramp down to 2D mode once the game was started.
The fix? These drivers, the modified 83.10's, everything rocks now, I have the 1024X768 patch installed, card runs @582mhz in 3D mode, I'm getting 55FPS, very sweet. :D

These modded rivers have also improved frame rates in ALL my games, and allowed me to increase my OC, I'm now running @582/1140, up from stock clocks @500/900. Very stable, hasn't crashed on me yet, and still runs very cool.
