After trying pretty much every QuickTime, and running under every compat. mode there is, I came to these conclusions:

QT v3 and v4 cause an error, with the file "quicktime.qts". The game encounters this error after about 5 seconds.

QT v6 and v7 cause the game to have no video, and crashes to the desktop again after about 5-6 seconds, with no visible error messages (though sometimes the screen resolution is out of whack).

Tried all DirectX versions, working my way up. Solved nothing.

Tried all the install options for the game itself.

Had to remove QuickTime Alternative, and K-Lite codec pack, thinking this might be the cause. Still, no improvement.

Tried installing under all compatitblity modes, as well as running the program itself under them. Not much help. The misc options for compat mode (resolution, text services, etc) don't seem to help.

Graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce 6150; perhaps this is the problem.
