The widget makes use of SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) which Airport Base Stations offer, as a mean to inspect internal information. What the widget displays is actually a small subset of what can be retrieved using the SNMP commands.
Requirements:
OS X 10.4.3 -10.4.9
An Airport Express (although it may also work with other Wifi devices implementing SNMP)
