iPodDisk is in short, another tool that enables you to copy your own music from your iPod. There are already numerous tools to copy music off your iPod; why bother with another? iPodDisk is designed to make it easy and intuitive to copy music off iPod; it enables you to do so within the Finder, or whatever application that can read files.
To be accurate, iPodDisk isn’t a tool that copies songs from iPods; instead, it enables other applications to do so by emulating an iDisk drive. After iPodDisk starts, you just launch your favorite file-management tool and access your iPod as an iDisk.
-Supported iPods: Due to the excellent library it uses to access iPod, iPodDisk supports a wide range of iPod models inclduing the first to fourth Generation as well as the iPod mini, iPod Photo and the new iPod nano.
-Network enabled: If you carry an iBook with you, and you also have an iMac at home, it’s easy to transfer songs among the Macs - connect your iPod to one Mac and run iPodDisk on it, then connect to iPodDisk from another Mac.
-Cross platform: Currently only OS X Tiger is supported, but the technologies underlying iPodDisk can be ported to other Unix systems easily. Porting it to Linux is already on the author’s todo list. What’s more, since the code will be open-sourced, you can port it to your favorite OS by yourself.
New in this version:
- ported to MacFUSE.
