Sonar is a file monitor utility program for Mac OS X Tiger. Sonar reports file change activity on your hard drive. It can show you every time a program changes a file on your hard drive.
Sonar can be useful for several purposes:
-Sonar belongs in any security geek's toolkit. Run Sonar before opening a new program and see exactly what that program is doing to your hard drive.
-Use Sonar to troubleshoot Spotlight-related slowdowns on your computer. Sonar will show you highly active files that you might want to consider adding to the Spotlight exclusion list to avoid frequent re-indexing.
-Developers can use Sonar to monitor how frequently their software writes to the hard drive. Developers can use this information to optimize their program's hard drive usage.
New in this version:
-Includes universal binary support for the core Sonar technology. The program interface still operates on Intel computers under the Rosetta emulation technology. Another update is planned later this year to provide full universal binary support.
-Fixed incompatibility with Script Debugger.
-Fixed false positives about File Vault.
-Miscellaneous other improvements.
