MobileUserSync allows administrators to backup a local Mac OS X 10.2+ machine to a remote server running the bundled rsync package. The bundled rsync version is 2.6.3 which has some valuable fixes and additions allowing hfs+ data to be written. The bundled version is built for Mac OS X.
While OS X 10.4 adds Mobile User Sync capability, the implementation is unknown at the time of this writing. MobileUserSync uses rsync which allows for granular include and exclude lists, this functionality is built into the initial installed version.
Features:
-Idle time backup
-Schedule times to do the Idle time checking. This allows for MobileUserSync to backup when the computer has been idle for 15 minutes or more, spacing successful backup runs by a specified interval. This means that you can now use MobileUserSync when a user does not Log off their computer. Their computer will be backed up every XX hours (your Interval preference) but only while the computer is idle.
-Ability to backup to any Server OS capable of running rsync.
-the rsync contained in the distribution splits the data and resource fork information on Mac OS HFS files into distinct files following the ._filename convention SAMBA style.
-SAMBA will automatically recombine these when viewed in the Mac OS X Finder.
New in this version:
-Tiger Client to Tiger Server operability.
-Various minor bug fixes.
